As we
travel up Oak Creek Canyon onto Flagstaff, the San Francisco Peaks loom
into view. Traveling through Navajo Reservation, we stop at the
Historic
Cameron Trading Post,
where you may browse/purchase
southwestern souvenirs. A brief stop is made at the Little Colorado
Gorge, to appreciate a canyon in it's infancy, also the Navajo have
arts & craft stalls here, and is a good opportunity to buy
Native
American handicrafts. Climb up the Watchtower and see the canyon from
the East Rim. Various stops are made at different viewpoints along the
South Rim, after which you are taken to lunch at one of the restaurants
in The Grand Canyon Village.
The famous El Tovar Hotel stands
on the rim overlooking the magnificent canyon. The Hopi House, designed
by the architect "Mary Coulter", displays beautiful hand-woven rugs and
basketry made by Navajo's.
